2019 was only three years ago (as of writing), but in those three short years, the definition of what the office is and how companies utilize their workspace has changed significantly; it’s a night and day difference comparing 2019 and 2022.
However, change isn’t always a bad thing, and a lot of companies has utilized this change in a positive way in order to retain, attract, and motivate employees to do their best work.
In terms of workplace design, many organizations and businesses have been thinking outside the box in order to get the most out of their floorplate and furniture.
Inspiration Comes From Different Places
The biggest factor when getting people into the office is without a doubt inspiration and motivation. Workers simply do their best work when they are inspired and motivated. With this in mind, many businesses are utilizing design ideas like implementing phone booths so people can do private video calls and having open floor plans that foster collaboration, amongst other ideas.

“Work looks and feels different from 2019. Everyone is searching for inspiration. With flexible schedules, people have to make an effort to get to know each other. The layout of an office is now more open and spread out.” – Jenna Vecchio, Showroom Manager
Furniture Is Key To Success

The most obvious change from 2019 to now in terms for the workplace is office furniture and how it is utilized. Office furniture can have a significant impact on the office and how workers get inspired. Having office furniture that promote well-being, privacy, noise control, and collaboration are just some of the many ways that the workplace is different from 2019.
“Of course, it started as everyone wanting taller panels or acrylic/glass additions to their lower panels, now we are seeing a move back to lower panels, but also a move back to workstations being positioned so all of their employees are facing different directions to reduce the amount of face to face interactions. Height adjustability is even more important now. People want to feel like have been at home so more resi-mmercial design “ Nicole Wynkoop, Director of Design,

Listen To Your Team

Of course, with most things, change isn’t always a bad thing. Change can often times lead to many new positive developments within the workforce where workers feel inspired, motivated, and comfortable in coming to the office.
With change, it is important to understand people’s needs and wants and how to get the best work out of them. For some people, a simple change in scenery in moving them around the office is enough, while with some people might need new furniture or workstation in order to feel comfortable in today’s climate.
No matter the preference, the importance of understanding and empathy will go a long way when inspiring and motivating your workforce.
“For some people, smaller workstations seem to be requested more often, along with shared spaces. I would say that these two things are the biggest differences since 2019” Jessica Platt – Vice President
